The Second Regional Meeting of Reading Clubs brought together readers from various municipalities, including Juneda, Castelldans, Granadella, Juncosa, Albagés, Cervià, Arbeca, Borges, and Vinaixa. The main objective of the day was to share the pleasure of reflection and dialogue arising from reading essays, verses, or fiction.
These groups are considered a key element for the survival of the Catalan language and for maintaining the habit of deep reading, in a context dominated by short texts and the use of emoticons. The work of local libraries and their professionals is essential to promote these initiatives, despite facing adversity.
Culture is the last dish served at the table and, most of the time, when you reach for the ladle to fill your plate, the pot is already empty.
The case of Espluga Calba is noteworthy, where a reading club exists without having its own library. Also, Pobla de Cérvoles created its group thanks to the support and advice of the Cervià Library, driven by the effort of a persistent individual in cultural promotion, identified as Míriam.
Organizers pointed out that the main challenge now is to succeed in reducing the average age of participants and encouraging young people to enjoy reading, a task that does not depend exclusively on library managers.
