The future access to the AP-2 in Castelldans will incorporate a bridge, a roundabout, and a new road section functioning as a bypass, aiming to improve mobility and reduce traffic in the urban core.

The project, already drafted and awaiting final approval from the Ministry of Transport, envisions a significant transformation of the highway connection. This initiative responds to requests from the Generalitat to optimize mobility in the area and to connect the highway with the C-233 road in the future.
The proposal includes a roundabout on the L-702 road, located between Castelldans and Puigverd de Lleida, north of the AP-2. From this point, a new road section will head west, facilitating access to the highway with two entry and exit lanes towards Lleida. A bridge will provide access to two additional lanes for the roadway towards Tarragona. Furthermore, a second road section to the east will connect the roundabout with the LV-7023, which links Juneda with Castelldans.

"The thoroughfare will not withstand an increase in heavy traffic. The sewers beneath the road are from the sixties and are obsolete; they could collapse under the weight of trucks."

Conrad Llovera · Mayor of Castelldans
The sub-delegate of the Government, José Crespín, noted that the project has integrated the Generalitat's demands to improve mobility, which has extended the drafting process and increased the budget. Municipal sources added that the Government complements this action with a new road section from the LV-7023, shortening the route to Les Borges Blanques and acting as a small bypass around Castelldans.
Mayor Conrad Llovera expressed concern about the pending connection of the C-233 with the future AP-2 access. This issue arises as the Government has put out to tender the first works to rehabilitate the C-233 between La Granadella and El Soleràs, with a budget of 3.8 million euros. Llovera warned that the reform, which will include a bypass, will take years to materialize, and fears a significant increase in heavy traffic in the town until then. He plans to raise this concern with the Generalitat soon.
