Environmental groups have filed a legal challenge against the license granted by the les Borges Blanques City Council to the company Prefabricats Pujol for a concrete recycling plant.

The organizations Ipcena, Banqueta de Juneda, and the Aturem la Incineradora platform oppose the project, which aims to process over 100.000 tonnes of waste annually. They warn that silica dust from the concrete poses a cancer risk to the local population in the Garrigues region.

"It is a project with a certain impact due to the handling of potentially polluting waste."

While the groups support recycling, they demand the facility be covered to prevent air pollution. They noted that some homes are located only 750 meters away, and the local Sports Field is within one kilometer of the site.
