The Mossos d'Esquadra have dismantled a marijuana plantation with 454 plants in Castelldans, Lleida, following an investigation that culminated in the arrest of a 46-year-old man.

The arrest took place this Tuesday, as a result of an investigation initiated earlier this year by the Catalan police. Agents had indications of a possible marijuana trafficker cultivating the substance in a town in the Lleida region.
Checks led investigators to a property located in the Serreta de Sant Jaume urbanization of Castelldans, which included two warehouses and a dwelling. The Segrià Investigation Unit took over the case and carried out surveillance and monitoring over several non-consecutive days and at different times.
During observations, it was noted that the suspect traveled daily to the property. From the outside, noises of fans and air conditioning could be heard, and upon entering the warehouses, a strong characteristic odor of the plant was perceived. The Drone Unit confirmed the presence of four air conditioning units and disguised ventilation pipes, as well as a significant heat source, indicating relevant activity. An energy consumption higher than contracted was also verified.
With sufficient evidence, a police operation was organized at the property when the man was accessing it. Inside, 454 marijuana plants were found distributed in two rooms of one warehouse. In another warehouse, 675 grams of buds and a precision scale were located. Furthermore, it was discovered that the installation was illegally connected to the general electricity grid via a utility pole.
The arrested individual, aged 46, has been accused of a crime against public health and will soon be brought before the Duty Court of Instruction in Lleida.
