The Department of Agriculture, the Ebro Hydrographic Confederation (CHE), and the State Government signed the minutes on Monday to begin load tests at the l'Albagés reservoir in Les Garrigues.

The signing of the meeting minutes between Civil Protection, the Department of Agriculture, the Ebro Hydrographic Confederation (CHE), and the State government, carried out on Monday, February 9, 2026, is the essential preliminary step to filling the l'Albagés reservoir. Sources from Agriculture indicate that this procedure enables the start of load tests “in the coming days.”
The tests had been delayed due to persistent drought, although the dam's security plan was presented back in June. The failure to finalize the signing had caused discomfort among irrigators, especially after recent rainfall episodes led to wasted excess water.

The l'Albagés reservoir is currently at around 10% of its capacity, holding 10 cubic hectometers out of a total of 82.

The l'Albagés infrastructure has been completed for five years, with only the dam's load test remaining. Once filled, the reservoir will receive surplus water from the Rialb reservoir via the Segarra-Garrigues Canal and will be used to irrigate the south of Les Garrigues and El Segrià.
