Les Preses hosts the 44th edition of the Ésdansa festival, centered on the 50th anniversary of the Marboleny Circle, with over 300 artists and an international program.

The Ésdansa festival in Les Preses has kicked off its 44th edition, this year with a special focus on the 50th anniversary celebration of the Cercle de Cultura Tradicional i Popular Marboleny, the organizing entity. The program runs until August 23rd, bringing together more than 300 artists centered around traditional root dance.
The event includes the premiere of the show 'Allò que som' by Esbart Marboleny, the exhibition '50 anys trenant comunitats' (50 years weaving communities), and discussion sessions on the entity's trajectory. The Basque Country is the invited territory, with proposals like 'Dirau' by the Bilaka collective and the participation of Kemen Dantza Taldea to explore Basque Carnival traditions.
The festival's international scope is strengthened by the presence of companies from Cuba, Indonesia, Peru, Serbia, and South Africa, who will perform at the Nits Ésdansa and Danses del Món shows. The Peruvian company Jallmay Alto Folklor already offered a preview during the presentation press conference.
Beyond the Marboleny celebration, Ésdansa embraces contemporary creation linked to tradition. New pieces will be presented, such as 'Brida' by Ester Guntín, winner of the Premi Delfí Colomé, and productions from the Program for the Promotion of Root Dance, including performances by Esbart Ciutat Comtal and Esbart Dansaire d'Arenys de Munt.
The festival also leverages the convergence of traditions for reflection, such as the ribbon dance, which also celebrates 50 years in Les Preses. The presence of groups from Cuba and the Basque Country with this dance will allow for discussions on its similarities across distant territories.
The natural surroundings of La Garrotxa will serve as a backdrop for open-air performances. On Saturday, the Aplec de Sant Miquel del Corb will combine a hike with traditional games and dances, while on Sunday, Festa al Parc will bring international dances to Pedra Tosca Park.
The mayor of Les Preses, Albert Danés, emphasizes the importance of Marboleny and festivals like Ésdansa in preserving cultural essence and highlights community involvement. Music will also feature prominently with performances by Nastallat and Fetus.
