The Cassà de la Selva Municipal Children's Council has begun its 2026-27 academic year meetings with a visit to the Town Hall, where 14 representatives from 5th and 6th grade were welcomed by the Council.

This week marked the start of the meetings for the Cassà de la Selva Municipal Children's Council for the 2026/27 academic year. In the first session, the children visited the Town Hall, where they were received by various members of the Council. The Children's Council is a participation space designed for 5th and 6th-grade students from the municipality's three schools to contribute their ideas for improving Cassà and contributing to its development.
The Council's main objective is to foster active participation of children in the town's life, listening to their opinions and allowing them to be involved in decisions that affect them. The Council has a budget of €1,500 to develop a specific proposal, although it can also present other proposals that do not involve economic cost.
Out of the 336 students in 5th or 6th grade at the municipality's schools, 14 representatives attended this first session. The Council will meet approximately once a month, alternating sessions at educational centers with meetings outside of school, to work on projects together. Throughout the year, students will develop proposals, and in the April plenary session, the representatives will present the final proposal to the council.
In the 2025-26 academic year edition, students proposed organizing a recreational activity and a sports day, both with the participation of all schools. In June, a gymkhana was held through the town's streets with 6th-grade students, and next Tuesday, November 3rd, a sports day will take place with 6th-grade primary students from all schools.
The Cassà Municipal Children's Council was created in the 2017-2018 academic year and has since become consolidated as an instrument for participation and education in democratic values, encouraging young people to be active participants in the present and future of the municipality, as well as being a space for dialogue, learning, and co-responsibility.
