The Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park has issued an alert following the start of the flowering season for the blue monkshood (Aconitum napellus) in the alpine zones. This plant, common in high mountain meadows, is notable for its blue flowers and its high toxicity in all its parts, from roots to blooms.
Skin contact can cause tingling, numbness, or irritation. If contact occurs with mucous membranes or injured skin, the toxins can be absorbed and lead to general intoxication symptoms, including potentially serious cardiac alterations.
The toxicity of the blue monkshood is so pronounced that it is practically not consumed by wild or domestic fauna, contributing to its abundant presence and the formation of striking concentrations during the flowering period.
The Park recommends observing the plant without touching it and maintaining a safe distance, enjoying it as part of the landscape but avoiding any handling due to its potential danger.
