Renowned footballer Alexia Putellas has made the decision to sign with London City Lionesses for the upcoming season, opting for the English league and moving away from offers from the United States.

The former captain of Barça, Alexia Putellas, will play next season for London City Lionesses. This decision, first reported by Sport and confirmed by EL PERIÓDICO, is driven by factors such as family proximity and the appeal of the English league, considered the most competitive in the world, a year before the World Cup.
After more than a decade with Barça women's team, where she led the professionalization process, Putellas announced her departure last May. Following a period of reflection, she has chosen the project of London City Lionesses, a team owned by Michele Kang and part of Kynisca Sports International. The London-based team finished sixth in the league last season.
Putellas's decision highlights the trend of players moving to England, a highly professionalized competition that allows for attractive projects focused exclusively on women's football. The footballer seeks to step out of her comfort zone in a competitive and familiar environment.
In London, Putellas will reunite with former teammates such as Jana Fernández, Lucía Corrales, and Mapi León, who will also sign for the club. London City's failure to qualify for the Champions League and the shared ownership regulation with Olympique de Lyon (also owned by Kang) are other reasons that influenced her choice.
The footballer also has the 2027 World Cup in Brazil in mind, where Spain will defend their title. Competing in a demanding league the year prior is considered essential for her preparation.

"Hello everyone. Given the earthquakes that have occurred in Venezuela, I want to communicate that my family and I are safe and sound in Caracas. Thank you for the messages. Much encouragement in the face of this tragedy to all Venezuelans and all affected families."
