On August 22 and 23, the streets of the old town of Castell d’Aro will transform to host the 25th Medieval Market. The event, with free entry, will offer a combination of shows, music, demonstrations of ancient crafts, family activities, artisan products, and gastronomy, all set with heraldic shields and banners.
The Town Council anticipates an attendance similar to recent editions, estimating between 15,000 and 20,000 visitors. The Tourism Department is promoting the initiative to offer a recreational option for families at the end of August.
Visitors can discover craft demonstrations such as blacksmithing (Sordibus), the making of beeswax candles and beekeeping (El Món Bee), blown glass (Frank Carnerero), and medieval dyes (Terrafoc Artesans). The craft and food fair will extend through the streets of the old town and Plaça Poeta Sitjar.
The program includes participatory activities such as an exhibition of weapons and armor, a medieval camp, and circus workshops. For the younger ones, «Petits constructors» has been organized, a play installation inspired by construction, as well as children's workshops on wax flowers and pendants.
Throughout the weekend, there will be musical parades with Turdion and Els Berros de la Cort, itinerant theater with Els Traginers, and the medieval parade by Caravana de les Arts. «La llegenda de l’origen de Castell d’Aro» (The Legend of the Origin of Castell d'Aro) will also be performed, along with belly dancing, duels, and a knightly tournament.
On Saturday, Guerau de Lledó, the last castellan of Castell de Benedormiens, will deliver the inaugural speech at 10:30 AM in the Plaça de Santa Maria. Saturday's events will conclude with the medieval concert «Grimorium» by Turdion at 9:30 PM in the Plaça Poeta Sitjar.
The event will take place in the surroundings of the historic center, a space declared a cultural asset of national interest that includes the church and the Castell de Benedormiens, documented since the year 1041.
