The Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) has cancelled its contract with Eliance, the company previously responsible for two of the four medical helicopters serving Catalonia.

The Department of Health cited Eliance's failure to provide replacement aircraft during technical maintenance as the primary reason for the termination. As of this Monday, SAF has taken over the management of the entire fleet under an emergency contract to ensure service continuity in Girona and Móra d'Ebre.
A contingency plan is currently in place, with operational helicopters stationed in la Seu d'Urgell, Girona, and Reus. Full service with all four aircraft is expected to be restored by March, while a new long-term tender process is planned for 2027.
