A forest fire in the Font de la Pólvora area of Girona caused considerable alarm on Monday afternoon. The fire affected a final area of 815 square meters of scrubland and holm oak, a location that experiences similar incidents each summer due to the high risk of fires and the presence of dry vegetation.
According to the Bombers de la Generalitat (Fire Department of Catalonia), the alert was received shortly after five in the afternoon. The department mobilized nine ground crews and two helicopters to work on extinguishing the blaze. The flames burned with medium-low intensity, necessitating a significant deployment to prevent the fire from spreading in an area particularly sensitive during the summer months.
The Fire Department declared the fire under control shortly before half past six in the evening, approximately one hour after the initial alert. At that time, seven ground crews were still working in the area. Finally, the fire was declared extinguished shortly after seven in the evening, and all crews were able to return to their stations.
