Medical professionals across Catalonia are launching a strike this Monday, February 16, to demand better working conditions and a reduction in professional burnout from the Ministry of Health.

The strike, organized by Metges de Catalunya and CESM, will also take place on Friday, February 20. Doctors are calling on Minister Olga Pané to abolish 24-hour shifts and increase hiring to ensure proper coverage during holiday periods.
Minimum service levels have been set at 25% for primary care on the first day of the protest. However, essential services including ER departments, intensive care units (ICU), and urgent cancer treatments such as chemotherapy will remain fully operational.
Emergency medical transport and urgent surgical procedures are also guaranteed. Other non-essential healthcare services will operate under a holiday-style schedule, ensuring that patients already admitted to hospitals continue to receive necessary care.
