The escalating conflict in the Middle East has caused a sudden spike in fuel prices in Girona, where diesel costs have jumped by 9.4% in just five days this March.

The situation at service stations across the region has tightened since last Saturday. According to recent data, diesel has increased by an average of 13 cents per liter, reaching 1.606 euros. Meanwhile, gasoline prices rose by 8 cents, averaging 1.575 euros per liter.

"At the moment there is a lot of diversification of supplies and the impact is smaller than with the war in Ukraine."

Albert Campabadal · President of Agrucaes
The fuel station association Agrucaes attributes this hike to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passage for global oil supply. With Brent crude oil now exceeding 82 dollars per barrel, experts suggest prices might peak by the end of the week.
