The Girona City Council initially approved the first regulations for the Board for the Right to Universal Accessibility this Monday to promote a more inclusive urban environment.

The motion passed with 25 votes from Guanyem, Junts, ERC, and PSC. The political group Vox voted against the measure, while PP abstained. This board was established in 2024 following requests from local disability advocacy organizations.

"Universal accessibility is not just a technical or urban planning issue, but above all a matter of rights and social justice."

Gemma Martínez · City Councilor
The board aims to guarantee the right to independent living and will oversee municipal activities such as Girona Temps de Flors. Key members include Grup Mifas, ONCE, and the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, among other local social partners.
