The tribute to the teacher and poet Isabel Oliva i Prat, born in Girona in 1924, has inaugurated the Sant Jordi celebration in the city. The traditional literary breakfast, organized by the Generalitat, focused this year on Oliva i Prat, who began publishing poetry at seventy-four and has maintained a prolific output ever since.
“"I started late, but since then I've gone so fast that I have about twenty books."
The author, described as «the most senior of Catalan poets», was accompanied by numerous literary and cultural figures from Girona at Casa Solterra. Oliva i Prat recalled the origin of her first book, L'instant de l'àngel, and highlighted her deep connection to Girona and the Barri Vell, recurring themes in her work, along with memories and the musicality of verse.
Unlike previous years, the day featured a second institutional event. The Girona City Council premiered its own tribute in the Plenary Hall, dedicated to the writer, poet, and teacher from Empordà, Rosa Font Massot. The latter recited a Sant Jordi gloss based on her experiences and her relationship with Catalan literature and culture.
The municipal event also served to commemorate cultural and literary anniversaries, such as the 120th anniversary of the publication of Josafat and the tenth anniversary of the death of Narcís-Jordi Aragó.
