Girona closes access to Parc del Migdia, Devesa, and Pedreres due to risk of falling trees

The municipal decision affects the most wooded areas with tall pines, as the soil remains saturated after the recent heavy rainfall earlier this week.

The Girona City Council closed several accesses to Parc del Migdia, Jardins de la Devesa, and Parc de les Pedreres this Thursday due to the high risk of falling trees caused by excessive soil moisture following heavy rains.

The closure at Parc del Migdia specifically affects the entrances from Barcelona street and Pau Vila i Dinarès street. This preventive measure, according to municipal sources, impacts the most wooded part of the area, where the tallest pines are concentrated, and will remain in place until the ground has completely dried.

The accesses have been closed for safety, because the soil is still very wet due to the rains that occurred at the beginning of the week.

Parc del Migdia is not the only green space affected. The Jardins de la Devesa, behind the Rosaleda building, also remain closed for the same reason. It should be noted that three trees fell in this area last year, and four more were cut down in December due to imminent risk.
Furthermore, the slope area of Parc de les Pedreres is inaccessible after five trees fell due to the heavy rainfall. The City Council plans action in the coming weeks to cut down any remaining high-risk specimens. This park has a pending tender project to replace 48 trees in poor condition and plant 22 new ones.
