The Girona City Council has installed temporary LED projectors at the Girona-Fontajau Municipal Pavilion to ensure proper lighting for basketball games, a measure aimed at significant energy savings.
The municipal corporation of Girona has proceeded with the rental and installation of new LED projectors at the Girona-Fontajau Municipal Pavilion. This initiative's main objective is to ensure that the matches of Bàsquet Girona and Spar Girona can be played under optimal lighting conditions. Installation work, which began earlier this week, is expected to be completed before the matches scheduled for this weekend.
“
"Behind the scenes, we have not stopped working with Bàsquet Girona to find definitive solutions for lighting, European funding, and the concession proposal. All this so that the basketball project, which is offering us magnificent seasons, consolidates and grows in the city and throughout the region."
This solution is provisional, while the City Council advances in processing a contract for the acquisition of new projectors to be installed permanently. The presentation of this improvement was attended by the mayor of Girona and the deputy mayor and culture councilor, who highlighted the commitment to improving the city's sports facilities.

"We are making improvements and will continue to seek resources to guarantee the best possible pavilion for the present and the future. We want Girona to have first-class sports facilities that meet the needs of clubs and athletes."
The new installation consists of 28 LED spotlights of 600 W of neutral white light, distributed equally on each side of the court. This configuration not only eliminates the need for the generators that Endesa had been temporarily placing but will also result in a 76% energy saving and double the amount of light available on the central court. This temporary measure will extend until the end of the season, with the expectation of starting the next one with the new, permanently acquired spotlights.
In parallel, the City Council and the club have submitted a joint application for a 2 million euro European grant, intended for reforms and technological updates of the pavilion. These actions are part of a broader collaboration between both entities, which includes the transfer of offices for Bàsquet Girona staff and the future tender for the rental of a warehouse to relocate activities such as judo and table tennis, freeing up space in the pavilion for exclusive basketball use.
