The Girona City Council launched a participatory process this Monday to study the pedestrianization of Plaça de Catalunya, aiming to implement the first urban measures by autumn 2026.

The initial meeting took place at the Espai Cívic Mercadal, attended by Mayor Lluc Salellas i Vilar and Mobility Councilor Isaac Sanchez Ferrer. A total of 42 entities, including neighborhood associations and business groups, will collaborate to analyze improvements for the square.
The roadmap includes five thematic meetings with stakeholders such as the University of Girona and the Diputació de Girona. These sessions will focus on accessibility, commerce, and local residents' needs to ensure a balanced mobility model for the city center.
A public session open to all citizens is scheduled for May 13, followed by a final meeting on May 28 to present the resulting proposal. The project seeks to enhance the public use of the space and promote sustainable urban planning.
