The Girona Ombudsman, Marta Alsina, has called on the City Council to rectify the registration criteria established in October to ensure access to essential public services.

Lawyer Marta Alsina claims the new framework creates barriers that infringe upon fundamental rights. There are currently 1,350 pending files, and over 30 formal complaints have been filed regarding the refusal to register residents in social housing or administrative addresses.

"Obstacles are being created and rights such as health, medical assistance, or schooling are being violated."

The ombudsman criticizes the three-month maximum period for processing applications, stating it lacks the necessary speed. Furthermore, she highlights that failing to backdate registration to the application day prevents immediate access to healthcare and education.
