The GEiEG has inaugurated the renovated athletics track at the Palau-sacosta complex in Girona, hosting the 106th Catalan Absolute Athletics Championship after a 25-year absence of this competition in the city.

The event was attended by representatives from the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Girona Provincial Council, and Girona City Council, as well as the Catalan Athletics Federation. The day highlighted the collaboration between administrations to modernize the sports facility.
The new infrastructure, which features eight lanes and an additional area for warm-ups, involved a total investment of 600,000 euros. Funding was provided by the Generalitat (50%), while the City Council and the Provincial Council each contributed 25%.
The highlight of the inauguration was a torch relay that traveled around the track, symbolizing the 125-year history of athletics in Girona. Athletes from various generations participated in the event, emphasizing generational change and inclusive sports.
