The Girona City Council has launched an emergency intervention at Plaza de Catalunya to reinforce one-third of the 340 beams that support the platform over the Onyar river.

The works, scheduled to last four months, focus on the structural maintenance of this landmark site. This action follows the removal of riverbed sediments and the identified need to rehabilitate concrete supports dating back to the 1960s.

"The Onyar is the clearest case of an urban river that has been imprisoned because the water has a very small space to pass through."

The platform was built using the foundations of a 1930s municipal market project. Despite the Susqueda dam construction in 1968, the area remains a critical flood risk point in the city center.
