The Girona City Council rejected a motion on Monday proposed by the Vox party that aimed to regulate access to municipal facilities for women wearing garments such as the burqa or niqab.

The proposal, introduced by councillor Francisco Javier Domínguez, was met with strong opposition from all other political groups. Opponents argued that the measure was discriminatory and did not address the actual social reality of Girona.

"We do not and will not accept lessons from misogynists or from those who work every day to deprive women of their freedom."

Representatives from Junts, PSC, and ERC also criticized the motion. Gemma Geis noted that such legislative debates belong in the Congress of Deputies, while other spokespersons described the initiative as a generic proposal disconnected from local needs.
