“"From the very beginning, we have shown ourselves willing to negotiate. Now, we appreciate the mediation by the Bar Association to try and unblock the negotiations for the collective agreement, which are at a dead end and not progressing at all."

Girona+Neta, the company responsible for cleaning and waste collection in the city, has accepted mediation by the Bar Association to try and unblock negotiations for a new collective agreement, in an attempt to resolve the labor dispute that could lead to an indefinite strike starting May 4.
This decision comes after a meeting between the works council and the municipal government team, where workers requested greater involvement from the City Council. Although the committee had initially requested a technical expert for mediation, they now positively value the intervention of the Bar Association to unblock negotiations they consider stalled.
The City Council had previously stated that it could not directly intervene in the negotiations, as Girona+Neta is a private company. However, the committee has pointed out that the council can make "modifications" that benefit the city, such as increasing routes or the frequency of emptying containers, especially those for packaging and paper, which are often overflowing due to the increased population density.
Despite the acceptance of mediation, the indefinite strike, approved by 88% of the workforce last Wednesday, "remains in effect" as negotiations with the company remain blocked. The main points of disagreement, which have been ongoing for a year and a half, focus on salary increases linked to the CPI and work-life balance for employees.
