The Casa de Cultura de Girona hosted the presentation of the Catalan Pact for Food Sovereignty this Saturday, aiming to place farming at the heart of the political debate.

The initiative is led by the Catalan Assembly for Ecosocial Transition (acTe) and supported by major unions such as Unió de Pagesos. The document outlines ten strategic goals to combat the current food crisis, noting that food prices in Catalonia have surged by 34% over the last five years.

"It is not enough to fight against something; we must also fight for something."

Key proposals include ensuring fair prices for producers, facilitating access to land for young farmers, and promoting local commercial circuits. The pact seeks to bridge the gap between environmentalists and the agricultural sector to ensure long-term sustainability and food security.
