Rural Agents are investigating whether mechanical work carried out with a radial saw on the C-660 road, which crosses the Les Gavarres massif near La Bisbal d'Empordà, could be the origin of the forest fire declared on Friday. The regional head of the corps, Jaume Bosch, indicated that these types of tasks were prohibited due to level 3 of the alfa plan, which warns of a high risk of fires.
Bosch highlighted that the work was carried out "without permission" and that "everything points to mechanical work" as the probable cause of the fire. The prohibition of any risky activity was in effect precisely due to the high probability of causing fires under the prevailing weather conditions.
As a preventive measure against the situation, the Girona City Council has prohibited access to the Les Gavarres area through roads departing from the municipality. The Local Police have established a special operation to control these paths, and informational signs will be posted with the help of volunteers.
