The Pyrenees tourism sector has launched a major sustainability drive this season, implementing new technologies in ski resorts and improving energy efficiency across Catalonia, Andorra, and France.

In the Cerdanya region, La Molina, managed by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), has invested four million euros in environmental upgrades. A highlight is the Niu de l'Àliga refuge, now a positive-energy building powered by solar panels.

"Its construction type allows rooms to stay at twenty degrees when the outside temperature is ten degrees below zero."

Looking ahead, FGC plans a 40 million euro investment in Vallter for a new cable car. Meanwhile, in Aran, Baqueira Beret is focusing on decarbonizing snow groomers using hydrogen and vegetable oil fuels.
