The Government of Catalonia has presented in Girona a new roadmap for coastal management, warning that sea levels in l'Estartit have risen by 11 centimeters since 1990.

The Coastal Protection and Management Plan (PPOL) outlines a critical scenario for the Costa Brava. According to the Government, urban pressure and climate change have created an imbalance that threatens the region's sustainable future.

"It is a priority to find a consensual management that takes sustainability into account."

The plan, expected for final approval in 2028, includes measures to restore ecosystems and create a risk landscape atlas. It will also set clearer rules for economic activities to ensure they are compatible with coastal protection.
