Thousands of teachers and professors took to the streets of Girona this Thursday during a strike to protest against precarious working conditions and a lack of classroom resources.

The demonstration gathered approximately 10,000 people according to organizers. Protesters from Salt, Sarrià de Ter, and Girona converged in the city center. Additionally, 1,400 people, including farmers from Revolta Pagesa, blocked the AP-7 highway at Sant Gregori for several hours.

Unions such as USTEC-STEs and CGT are calling for a significant reduction in bureaucracy and lower student ratios to better address classroom diversity. Teachers warn that the current situation is unsustainable and affects the educational level of students.
The strike is set to continue tomorrow with a major unified demonstration in Barcelona, bringing together educators from across Catalonia to pressure the regional government.
