Following a participatory process involving around a hundred residents, Girona City Council will present two options for the Torre Taialà sports court. The councilor for City That Cares and the neighborhood, Gemma Martínez, confirmed that "somewhat more elaborate technical project sketches" and a "feasibility study" will be presented to define short and long-term uses.
The participatory process, facilitated by the Centre Cívic Ter, highlighted debates on safety and the fence surrounding the court. While some residents propose fully enclosing the area due to its proximity to the road, others are hesitant about keeping the fence or suggest alternatives.
Consequently, two sketches will be presented: one with a complete fence and another with a "partial fence to provide greater openness." A new participatory session will be held after the summer to decide on the final proposal.
Proposed uses include play circuits or a climbing wall for younger children, a platform for small-scale performances, and calisthenics equipment for the elderly, aiming for community engagement within the space.
The court was closed in the autumn of 2022 by judicial order due to excessive nighttime noise. Despite municipal actions and acoustic tests, neighborhood complaints persisted, leading to a new closure ruling in early 2024.
