The counties of Alt and Baix Empordà, Selva, and Gironès have been the most affected, with rainfall exceeding 100 l/m² in 24 hours, reaching 238 liters in Portbou. Protecció Civil activated the ES-Alert system on mobile phones to warn the population about the risk of rivers like the Ter, Onyar, and Daró overflowing.
The Bombers (Firefighters) had to temporarily suspend the search for a 63-year-old man, a resident of Fontanilles, who was reportedly swept away by a stream in Palau-sator. The search was halted due to unsafe conditions, poor visibility, and high water flow. Consequently, the Generalitat suspended classes and sports activities in the four most affected counties.
“"We must be very alert and very vigilant."
Regarding infrastructure, access to the Girona Nord exit of the AP-7 highway near Salt was cut due to water accumulation. Rail traffic was also impacted, with the temporary interruption of the high-speed line between Girona and Figueres. The Girona City Council recommended closing businesses near the right bank of the Onyar river due to the risk of flooding.
The Government anticipates a 'turning point' in the storm during the afternoon, with river flows potentially stabilizing, although they will remain high until Wednesday. Sarai Sarroca, Director of the Catalan Meteorological Service, noted that despite significant amounts (up to 238 liters in Portbou), the episode is not comparable to the Gloria storm of 2020.
