Girona City Council began the demolition of the occupied building on Tomàs Mieres Street yesterday, December 15, 2025, after a municipal report confirmed severe structural safety risks.

The demolition of the property, located on Tomàs Mieres Street in Girona, follows months of neighborhood conflicts and complaints regarding insecurity. The approximately 25 people living there were already evicted on October 6.
The speed of the demolition process is due to a technical report from the council that warned of serious structural problems compromising the safety of the block. These works are expected to last for one month.
Demolition tasks will start on the upper floor, where work will be carried out manually due to the proximity to the train tracks. Heavy machinery will be used for the remaining floors.
Once the demolition is complete, the building owner must undertake the necessary works for the expansion of the sidewalk in that area.
