The Girona City Council has put out to tender a project worth almost one million euros to redesign the Mas Gri roundabout, removing a lane to facilitate turns and integrate a bus stop, in addition to building a 222-space park-and-ride facility.

The initiative, with a budget of 908,924.22 euros, involves removing one of the three existing lanes at the Mas Gri roundabout, specifically the one closest to the future parking area. This modification, detailed in the May 2024 project, aims to reduce traffic speed and optimize vehicle maneuverability at this key point at the southern entrance to Girona.
The main objective of this reorganization is the integration of a stop for the shuttle bus, which will connect the park-and-ride facility with the city center. This measure is part of a broader strategy to decongest the urban core and promote sustainable mobility.

It is planned that the driver will have a remote control to regulate the traffic lights and to turn red those on Barcelona and Reggio Emilia streets so that the bus can exit comfortably and cross the two lanes to navigate the roundabout.

The parking facility, which will have capacity for 222 vehicles, will be located next to the Mas Gri roundabout and the Clínica Girona. It is designed for three types of users: clinic visitors, Girona residents who work outside the city and wish to carpool, and users from outside Girona who want to park and use public transport to access the center. These latter users are considered a priority.
The parking control system, featuring barriers, license plate reading cameras, and automatic payment machines, is designed to prevent long-term stays and promote its use as a park-and-ride facility. Public transport users will be able to benefit from free or subsidized parking.
The estimated completion time for the works is nine months. In addition to the roundabout and parking facility redesign, a bike lane will be constructed to connect Clínica Girona with the Avellaneda area. Interested companies have until April 20 to submit their bids, with work expected to begin in the summer and the project to be completed well into 2027. Part of the funding, 400,000 euros, comes from the Pla Únic d'Obres i Serveis de Catalunya.
