The Girona Provincial Council has published the seventh edition of the study Business Structure of the Girona Region 2026, which shows that the turnover of companies in Girona has exceeded 37 billion euros for the first time in 2024, a 1.9% increase from the previous year.

Girona's business sector consolidates its growth trajectory, with a 1.9% increase in total turnover, reaching 37.039 billion euros. This rise is attributed to an increase in mercantile companies (14,719, +2.2%) and employment (177,095 people, +2.7%). The study, conducted by the Local Economic Promotion and Development service of the Girona Provincial Council, uses data from 2024 provided to the Commercial Registry.
The study forecasts that turnover for 2025 will reach 38.819.5 billion euros, a 4.8% increase. By sector, food and beverage products lead turnover (19.9%), followed by wholesale food trade (9.4%) and trade intermediaries (5.8%).
Regarding business size, 73.5% of the analyzed companies have a turnover of less than one million euros. In contrast, the top 250 companies by turnover (1.7%) account for 55.7% of sales. Seven companies each exceed 400 million euros in annual turnover.
The gradual rejuvenation of Girona's business fabric is also noteworthy: 66.7% of companies were established after 2000, and 29% after 2015. Only 173 companies predate 1970.
Geographically, Gironès, La Selva, and Alt Empordà concentrate 70% of the total turnover (25.895.7 billion euros). However, the most significant increases were recorded in Cerdanya (+7%) and Garrotxa (+5.2%). Per capita turnover saw a slight decrease to 44,393 euros, although El Pla de l'Estany remains the region with the highest turnover per person (84,550 euros).
The study was developed following the model of the Manresa City Council and aims to be a tool for local economic stakeholders.
