The women's basketball team Spar Girona visits Schio today at the Palazzetto Livio Romare in Italy, in a crucial EuroLeague match coinciding with the fifth anniversary of their historic first qualification for the quarterfinals.

The Palazzetto Livio Romare, one of the most distinctive courts in the EuroLeague, became a place of pilgrimage for Spar Girona on January 22, 2021. That day, also against Schio, the Uni qualified for the first time among the top eight women's teams on the continent, despite losing 77-74.

"They are playing for a lot: they have 5 wins and they absolutely must win."

Roberto Íñiguez · Spar Girona Coach
Spar Girona (7-2) arrives at the match after breaking their 19-game winning streak at Fontajau by losing to Galatasaray (68-82) last week. This will be the first key game without player Mariam Coulibaly, who is recovering from an injury and has not traveled to Italy.

"I am very clear about it, closing a circle. And returning to Girona what I perhaps took away with Salamanca, twice."

Roberto Íñiguez · Spar Girona Coach
The main objective for Roberto Íñiguez's team is to finish first or second to secure a direct spot in the semifinals of the Final 6 to be held in Zaragoza in April. Player Klara Holm, who missed the first leg, expressed optimism: “The feelings are good, and although it will be really tough, we are going with great enthusiasm.”
