The storm affecting the Girona counties has left rainfall records between 170 and 230 liters per square meter in areas of Empordà and Gironès. The main concern focuses on the search for a man, approximately 60 years old, who was swept away by his car in the Riera Nova stream, on the outskirts of Palau-sator. Rescue teams, who have been working "with great forcefulness" since early morning, have had to reduce their efforts due to the increased flow and turbidity of the water.
“"We have had aerial assets and drones inspecting the area, but the truth is that visibility is very poor, also due to the debris the water is carrying, and therefore it will be a long job."
The head of the Girona Emergency Region, Jordi Martin, pointed out that the most critical points are the courses of the Onyar and Daró rivers. In Girona, the flow of the Onyar exceeded 300 cubic meters due to water coming from the Gotarra stream, although the situation has stabilized. The Daró, for its part, has overflowed in agricultural areas near La Bisbal d'Empordà and in Serra de Daró and Llabià, affecting circulation on secondary roads.
The Bombers de la Generalitat (Firefighters) have responded to 901 incidents since the beginning of the storm, 341 of which were in the Girona Emergency Region. Services included rescuing drivers crossing flooded streams in Maçanet de la Selva, Calonge, and Parlavà. Furthermore, the preventive evacuation of 40 people from the ALTEM residence in Figueres was carried out. Authorities urge citizens to limit mobility as much as possible given the forecast of a new round of heavy rain.
