The Girona demarcation closed December 2025 with 28,524 people registered as unemployed, standing out as the area in Catalonia with the most significant year-on-year reduction.

Despite the slight 0.45% increase compared to November, data from the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Social Security confirms a decrease of 1,935 unemployed people (-6.35%) compared to December 2024.
According to the Catalan Public Employment Service (SOC) and Comissions Obreres de Catalunya (CCOO), the monthly increase of 128 people was mainly concentrated in the services sector (71), followed by construction (23), agriculture (20), and industry (14). More than half of the total unemployed are women (16,254).

Long-term and youth unemployment remain a challenge, and active employment policies must be reinforced for vulnerable groups such as women and young people, focusing on future sectors.

Regarding affiliation, Girona lost 2,845 jobs in December (-0.78%), leaving a total of 362,218 affiliates. However, year-on-year affiliation grew by 2.21% compared to 2024, despite the 7.15% drop in the number of contracts signed that month (18,330).
