The Arenys de Mar City Council, through its Department of Environment, has launched a series of socio-environmental education workshops in local educational centers to raise student awareness about the importance of recycling.

During November and December, the secondary schools Els Tres Turons, La Presentació, and the primary school Joan Maragall will host practical sessions titled “Separar per transformar” (Separate to Transform). The aim is to promote correct waste separation, particularly for packaging and glass, and to demonstrate how plastic materials can be transformed into new products.
The company Plàstic Preciós BCN will provide mobile recycling machines to the schools. Students will witness firsthand the operation of a manual plastic shredder and an injection molding machine, which will transform shredded material into new recycled plastic objects. This will help them understand how proper waste separation prevents materials from ending up in landfills or the natural environment.
The sessions are scheduled for November 5th at Els Tres Turons (first-year ESO students), November 6th at La Presentació (sixth-grade Primary students), and December 2nd at Joan Maragall school (sixth-grade Primary students). Each workshop will last 50 minutes and use materials derived from secondary raw materials.
Environmental educators will explain the importance of source separation, clarifying which materials belong in the yellow (packaging only), blue, and green bins. This initiative is supported by the Agència de Residus de Catalunya (Catalan Waste Agency) and funded by Ecoembes and Ecovidrio.
