The rainstorm that affected the Catalan coast in early October caused significant damage in Cabrils. One of the most serious incidents was the collapse of a wall separating two homes on Mare de Déu del Pilar street. The event affected two parked vehicles, a third property, and led to the street's closure. Due to the closure, 12 homes were left without road access, with residents having to use a pedestrian path involving nearly 150 steps.
The City Council took charge of the emergency cleaning and road opening tasks. After consulting several companies, one with the necessary machinery and personnel was hired. Concurrently, a specialized engineering firm was contacted to ensure the structural safety of the affected homes and supervise the works. These tasks included removing debris, damaged vehicles, and fallen scrap metal from one of the properties to ensure safe passage.
During the debris removal work on Thursday, a strong gas odor was detected. The utility company shut off the supply to the area as a precaution. In response, the City Council offered alternative housing to affected residents, though only one family accepted.
Both the contracted company and municipal staff worked intensively over the weekend. Finally, on Monday, vehicle and pedestrian access to the street was restored, and the gas supply was reinstated. Moving forward, the owners of the collapsed wall will be responsible for its reconstruction.
