Calella Hospital, part of the Maresme i la Selva Health Corporation, has implemented Toumai® robotic surgery, a result of a joint purchasing alliance with four other Catalan hospitals to optimize access to this technology.

This initiative, which involved a total investment of 12.4 million euros, has led to savings of approximately 3.5 million due to the joint procurement. The primary goal is for medium-sized centers to offer this technology without needing to refer patients to larger reference hospitals.
The Toumai® robotic surgery system, developed by MedBot–MicroPort, enables highly precise interventions with minimal incisions. This results in reduced postoperative pain, fewer complications, and faster recovery for patients, while the surgeon maintains full control throughout the procedure.
At Calella Hospital, the first operations using the new robotic system are scheduled for April. Initially, it will be applied in specialties such as urology, gynecology, and general surgery, with an estimated 250 annual interventions, with plans to progressively expand activity to other medical areas.
The project also includes an intensive training program for over a hundred healthcare professionals. These specialized programs ensure the safe and efficient use of robotic technology, guaranteeing the highest quality in patient care.
