The Fire Department announced this morning that the fire, which started on Thursday afternoon, is now under control. Overnight, a team of five units and a drone unit maintained a presence to secure the perimeter. No hot spots were detected in the vegetation area, although some parts of the industrial zone are still emitting smoke.
Following the improvement in the situation, Civil Protection issued a message to the residents of Òrrius at 7:30 AM to lift the confinement order. However, the public is urged not to approach the industrial area to avoid unnecessary risks.
According to the Rural Agents, the vegetation fire impacted approximately half a hectare of forest land. The fire originated in the courtyard of an industrial plant and rapidly spread to nearby vegetation. The wax and paraffin factory has been completely destroyed.
Throughout the morning, two water trucks will continue with inspection and monitoring tasks in the affected area. The Medium Command Unit is expected to withdraw later today. Civil Protection has deactivated the alert phase of the PROCICAT and moved to a pre-alert phase to monitor the situation, particularly after a paraffin spill into the stream.
The Catalan Water Agency reports that the paraffin spill affected about 450 linear meters of the stream and that the substance has already solidified, halting its spread.
