The municipal group Junts per Mataró has emphasized the urgency of a change in direction regarding the city's maintenance management, proposing a significant increase in investment and the establishment of strategic long-term plans.

According to Xavier Font i Mach, councilor for Junts per Mataró, the city has a notable deficiency in the maintenance of public spaces and municipal facilities, a situation that, in his opinion, is not given due importance by the current government. This lack of care has direct consequences on the quality of life of citizens.
The councilor pointed out that current management does not show the efficiency or the level of investment that Mataró requires. He cited examples such as the sudden closure of the municipal swimming pool, cracks in the Les Figueretes school, and the widespread deterioration of streets and sidewalks, as evidence of a reactive and punctual maintenance strategy, rather than a planned and constant one.

"Maintenance cannot be reactive or punctual; it must be planned, rigorous, and constant."

Junts per Mataró highlighted that the lack of multi-year maintenance plans prevents anticipating needs and optimizing resources, and that no shock plans are being promoted to reverse accumulated degradation in specific neighborhoods. This absence of a long-term vision, according to the group, is crucial for effective municipal management.
The party argues that maintenance is not a secondary expense, but a fundamental investment in social cohesion, security, sustainability, and urban dignity. In this regard, they recalled that, thanks to the budgetary stability pact and a rationalization project, nearly 5 million euros in additional funds have been generated in one year, which should be allocated to areas such as maintenance.
Furthermore, Junts per Mataró has achieved concrete results for 2025, promoting an investment plan of 2 million euros for public spaces, including accessibility improvements, undergrounding of containers, and restoration of green areas. For 2026, investment in street paving has been increased with an approximate allocation of 2.5 million euros. More than 600,000 euros have also been secured for the improvement and adaptation of the Palau Josep Mora to civil protection regulations, with plans for a second phase that will include a fourth grandstand and roof replacement.
