The Mataró City Council approved on Thursday, March 5, the creation of the Department of Catalan, a new administrative area dedicated to promoting the language's social presence.

The department will be led by Councilor Bea Delgado and coordinated by Miquel Àngel Vadell. This political move follows a proposal by ERC, Junts, and CUP, supported by the local government coalition of PSC and ECPM.
Key responsibilities include developing a local language plan and ensuring that municipal staff and contractors provide services in Catalan. The initiative aims to meet the goals of the National Pact for the Language by 2030.
