The Mataró University Hospital has established itself as a pioneer in Catalonia by implementing a bariatric surgery program that allows patients to return home on the same day of their procedure.

Over the past 18 months, 32 patients with severe obesity have successfully undergone this process. Data shows that none of the participants required hospital readmission, and 92% reported they would choose home recovery again due to its comfort and safety.
The program utilizes minimally invasive techniques such as gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy. Specialized medical and nursing staff provide home follow-up during the critical first 48 hours to monitor the patient's progress and prevent complications.
Eligible patients must be between 18 and 65 years old, clinically stable, and live within an hour of the hospital in Mataró. This innovative approach by the Maresme Health Consortium aims to reduce hospital-acquired infections and improve the overall patient experience.
