The Barnahus center in Mataró provided support to 226 children and adolescents during 2025, strengthening an integrated care model that has assisted 413 minors in the Maresme region since its launch.

These figures reflect a broader trend across Catalonia, where the system managed 3,735 cases last year, representing a 29% increase compared to the previous period. Official data shows that 77.1% of victims are girls, and 56.7% of cases occur within the family environment.
The primary goal of this service is to prevent the re-traumatization of minors. The model brings together social, health, police, and judicial professionals in a single space, ensuring that children only have to give their testimony once in a safe environment.
To meet growing demand, Mataró will soon open a permanent headquarters in Can Vilardell. The new facility, built from wood and funded by 1.5 million euros from European funds, is expected to be completed within ten months.
