Maresme Municipalities Demand Direct Bus Service to Barcelona

Several towns in the region, such as Canet de Mar and Arenys de Mar, rely solely on the train to connect with the Catalan capital, leading to issues during incidents.

Several municipalities in the Maresme region, including Canet de Mar, Arenys de Munt, and Arenys de Mar, have voiced the need for a direct bus service to Barcelona as an alternative to the train, their current sole connection.

Currently, these localities depend exclusively on the R1 line of Rodalies for their commutes to the Catalan capital. This reliance creates significant problems when railway incidents occur, leaving users without public transport options.
The area between Mataró and Canet is particularly underserved if the train fails, with no alternative bus lines, either with or without stops. Although Vilassar de Mar has a bus service, it makes multiple stops in other municipalities, which is why its residents also join the demand for a direct connection to Barcelona.
Peak hours continue to be a challenge for many users, who endure long queues and stand-up journeys. Despite Moventis increasing the number of routes by 40% over the last five years, the supply fails to meet growing demand, amidst a significant boom in interurban bus transport across Catalonia.
