Unemployment in Maresme rises for third month to 19,725 people

Jobless figures increase in February driven by women, while the construction sector sees a slight recovery.

The Maresme region closed February with 19,725 people unemployed, an increase of 113 individuals compared to the previous month, marking a third consecutive monthly rise.

According to the Local Development Observatory of the Maresme County Council, the increase was heavily concentrated among women, with 345 more women unemployed, while the male count rose by only 6 people.
On a year-on-year basis, unemployment has decreased by 2.78%. However, the gender gap remains evident: male unemployment dropped by 5.42% over the last year, while female unemployment only saw a 0.81% reduction. The construction sector was the only area to show improvement, with a 3.26% decrease in jobless claims.
Regarding local municipalities, Pineda de Mar holds the highest unemployment rate at 12.01%, whereas Tiana maintains the lowest at 4.85%. Overall, unemployment grew in 14 of the 30 municipalities in the region compared to January.
