The Malgrat de Mar City Council has opened the application period for 'Schooling Grants', aimed at families facing economic hardship who are not beneficiaries of the 'School Backpack' program for purchasing books for the 2026-2027 academic year. Applications can be submitted until October 30.

These grants aim to ensure equal opportunities and educational inclusion, acting as a compensatory measure for the personal, social, and economic inequalities of families registered in the municipality.
To be eligible for these grants, families must meet several requirements. These include being registered residents of Malgrat de Mar, having children of compulsory school age enrolled in a local school for the 2026-2027 academic year, and not being beneficiaries of the 'Mochila Educativa' program from the Department of Education. Furthermore, the family unit's bank balance on the 24th of each month of the call year must be below €1,000 for families with one child, €1,500 with two, €2,000 with three, and €2,500 with four children. Exceeding these amounts will result in the rejection of the grant.
The required documentation includes the duly completed application form, copies of bank statements for the last six months for all family unit members, or a sworn statement if no bank account is held. A sworn statement of income will also be required if sporadic jobs have been held, along with proof of purchase and payment for school books. In cases of separated parents registered at the same address, the separation sentence and regulatory agreement must be submitted.
The Malgrat de Mar City Council reserves the right to request additional documentation deemed necessary to evaluate the applications.
