The events occurred during a night patrol in one of the commercial arteries of Mataró's old town. The police force reported via social media that the Mataró City Council will claim the expenses incurred, as the damage to the urban furniture exceeds 500 euros.
This incident is the second act of vandalism suffered by central Mataró in recent weeks. Previously, Carrer Santa Teresa, another commercial area, appeared covered in graffiti, an incident reported by local merchants.
The affected planters are part of the new urban furniture installed following the reurbanization of Carrer de Sant Josep, a project completed almost a year ago. This reform transformed the street into a single platform for pedestrians, inaugurated during the Christmas holidays, with the aim of boosting commerce and improving the aesthetics of the old town.
The urban furniture includes benches, meeting points, and planters that add greenery, as well as custom-designed litter bins. This intervention is part of the Centre Impulse Plan and is designed to be easily removable, for example, during events like Les Santes.
