This recognition, awarded on October 2nd in Reus, honors the work of the Town Council in preserving the vegetal and landscape heritage. The distinction is part of the movement promoted by the Confederació d’Horticultura Ornamental de Catalunya, which includes 181 municipalities in Catalonia and Andorra.
The Flowers of Honor are granted by an independent jury that evaluates aspects such as the ratio of green spaces to inhabitants, maintenance resources, plant diversity, functionality and uniqueness of spaces, landscape integration, and species selection criteria.
The award also endorses Teià's policies for more sustainable urban green management adapted to climate change, including efficient water management, biological pest control with native species, and the use of natural fertilizers.
The Department of Environment has implemented best practices such as creating auxiliary fauna reservoirs, converting some plantations into meadows, and differentiated mowing to promote biodiversity.
The Viles Florides movement also values the social use of green spaces and citizen participation initiatives. In Teià, the Maridatge dels Sentits (Marriage of the Senses), held in May, stands out for highlighting the municipality's landscape and natural heritage.
